ZenBusiness put serious engineering into a dashboard where filings, documents, and reminders sit together in one place, and a first-time owner can find their way around it without a tutorial. Calling that marketing gloss would be dishonest. It is a real product, built by people who care about the craft, and if what you actually want is a compliance workspace, they sell one and we do not.

What we sell is narrower: a staffed Ohio address, one price, repeated.

Two Numbers, and the Second One Is the One You Live With

Bought on its own, without a formation order attached, ZenBusiness opens standalone agent coverage at $99 with state fees added on top. From there the yearly renewal is $199. Both figures are published, neither is hidden, and the company deserves no accusation of concealment.

The question is which figure describes your situation. Ohio expects a named agent on record for every day your entity stays alive, so this is not a purchase with an end date. The $99 introduces you. The $199 is the relationship.

A Coincidence Ohio Owners Should Sit With

Here is a number that puts the renewal in perspective. Creating an Ohio LLC costs $99. That is Form 610, the Articles of Organization, priced at ninety-nine dollars by the fee schedule at ORC § 111.16(F). Once accepted, it generates no annual report, no renewal notice, and no further charge from that office ever again. One payment, one company, done.

Now set the ZenBusiness renewal against the same yardstick. At $199 a year, the renewal costs roughly what Ohio would charge to bring two brand new LLCs into existence in the same twelve months. That is what the second year buys: not two companies, one address.

Ohio's published annual rates have a bottom end, $99 belongs to it, the number does not move at renewal, and same-day scanning comes included rather than invoiced.

Ohio's Half of the Handoff: Form 521 and $25

The state charges $25 and asks for one document, the Statutory Agent Update, catalogued as Form 521 and revised in October 2024. The same form serves LLCs, corporations, and nonprofits, so there is no entity-specific version to hunt down. You can mail the PDF to the Secretary of State or complete the update electronically in Ohio Business Central, whichever suits you.

Sequence is the part worth getting right. Ohio's LLC statute requires that an agent be maintained continuously, and the word doing the work there is continuously. Form 521 reflects that: it asks you to name the incoming agent, and it offers no way to record a vacancy. So the order runs enroll, file, then cancel. Sign up with us, put our Ohio details on the update, submit it with the $25, watch the business search until our name appears in the agent field, and only after that switch off the ZenBusiness renewal. Reverse those steps and you can end up paying two providers or, worse, showing the state a gap.
