Agent service on the Rocket Lawyer price list is $125 for twelve months, unchanged by whether you carry a membership and unchanged across every membership level they sell. We found no first-year teaser and no promotional rate that expires quietly. In a market where half the advertised numbers are introductory, a company that quotes one figure and then charges that figure is behaving well, and we would rather say so than manufacture a complaint.

The Question Is the Package, Not the Number

Rocket Lawyer's business is a legal subscription. Document templates, e-signature, attorney consultations, a library of forms covering situations most owners will never encounter. Agent service is one line inside that catalog.

If you want the catalog, $125 is a fair price and this page is not for you. Buy it and be happy.

If what you want is somebody in Ohio to accept a summons on behalf of your company, then you are buying a shelf of things you will not take down. That is not a criticism of the shelf. It is an observation about fit, and fit is the only thing worth arguing about when both companies clear the same legal bar.

What Ohio Actually Demands of the Address

Strip the role down to its legal minimum and it comes to this: a physical location in Ohio where a human being can be handed a lawsuit during normal business hours. Not a platform. Not a document library. A door.

Ohio is unusually specific about the door, too. Its LLC statute defines the agent's usual place of business so as to rule out a mailbox at the post office, and then keeps ruling it out even when the box arrives dressed in what the statute calls "an associated street address." Read that clause slowly, because it describes a workaround before banning it. Mailbox services that assign a street-style address with a suite number are common, and plenty of states left themselves open to them. Ohio's drafters saw the maneuver coming and closed it inside the statutory text.

The practical consequence is narrow but real. Whoever you appoint has to keep an actual staffed Ohio location, not a forwarding arrangement dressed up to look like one. The state's part is one document and $25. That document is Form 521, which Ohio titles the Statutory Agent Update, and it covers LLCs, corporations, and nonprofits with a single version. Ohio Business Central accepts the filing electronically; the same form travels by mail if you would rather send paper. The fee does not change between the two routes.

Form 521 has a line for the incoming agent and no line for none, which is the state quietly enforcing the sequence for you. Get the replacement engaged first, name that replacement on the update, and the appointment moves in one motion with nothing in between.
